Random Food
What should you eat? Get a dish from somewhere in the world, picked at random.
Lumpia
Thin, crisp spring rolls filled with minced meat or vegetables.
About Random Food
Random Food picks a dish from a curated list of foods from every corner of the world — street snacks, national dishes, breakfasts, soups, breads and desserts — with where it comes from and what it is.
Use it to decide what to order tonight, to find something new to cook, or just to learn what people eat elsewhere. Filter by type or region to narrow it down.
Ideas
- Can't pick a takeaway? Filter to Main and press once.
- Try cooking one unfamiliar dish a week — then check Random Recipe.
How it works
The pool holds 374 dishes. Each press picks one uniformly at random with your browser's cryptographic random number generator (the Web Crypto API), so every food is equally likely, and the same one is never shown twice in a row.
The list is fetched once — only when you first press the button — and cached, so every pick after that is instant.
Without JavaScript the button still works: it asks our server for a pick instead.
