Beef Bulgogi

- 500 g beef sirloin or ribeye, very thinly sliced
- 4 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 3 garlic cloves, grated
- 1 Asian pear or apple, grated
- 2 spring onions, sliced
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
- Method
- Mix the soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, garlic and grated pear in a bowl.
- Add the beef and half the spring onions, toss well and marinate for at least 20 minutes.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan or griddle over high heat.
- Cook the beef in batches for 2–3 minutes, letting it caramelise at the edges, until cooked through.
- Serve with rice and lettuce leaves, scattered with the remaining spring onions and sesame seeds.
